Worth Every Dollar. (Usually.)

How a simple hobby became a luxury travel blog, and then an obsession.

This wasn’t supposed to become a luxury travel blog. It certainly wasn’t supposed to become a lifestyle.

It started with wanting a better experience: a restaurant worth making a reservation for, a cocktail worth crossing town to try, a hotel that justified more than its nightly rate.

Somewhere along the way, finding those places became as much a part of the trip as going to them.

Now I’ll spend months researching a reservation, build an itinerary around a chef or a Formula 1 race, and leave room for the recommendation that changes the entire evening. A conversation with a bartender can lead to the next stop. A meal can become the reason I return to a city.

Relaxing beach vacations? They have their place. These days, I’m more likely to spend my time exploring unfamiliar neighborhoods, talking with chefs and locals, and finding out what makes a place worth knowing beyond its most photographed attractions.

Some people collect watches. Some people collect cars. I collect experiences.

That doesn’t mean every experience earns a recommendation. Not every restaurant deserves the attention it gets, and not every luxury hotel delivers enough to justify the price. A famous name or an impressive dining room might get my attention. What happens once I’m there determines what I’ll write.

RJVIPGP is where I share those experiences: the meals I still think about, the hotels I would return to, the race weekends that became much more than a race, and the details I wish I’d known before booking.

The reviews come from places I’ve experienced myself. When a guide includes researched alternatives, I make that distinction clear. If something is sponsored, hosted or part of an affiliate relationship, I’ll tell you. My opinion will still be mine.

You don’t have to travel exactly the way I do to find something useful here. It might be one dinner, a better hotel location, or a reason to explore somewhere you hadn’t considered.

Has this hobby cost more than I originally intended?

Absolutely.

Was it worth it?

Usually.

Drowned Lands Brewery Review: Come for the Beer, Stay for the Food

Drowned Lands Brewery review: I usually order cocktails or wine. Before my first visit, I hadn’t really had a beer in years outside of a sporting event. Drowned Lands in Warwick changed that—and I’ve been back since my original September 6, 2026 visit. The beer got my attention, but the food has given me plenty…

Are Tasting Menus Worth It? What I’ve Learned Paying for My Own

I love tasting menus. That does not mean I think you should always order one. I have planned trips around restaurant reservations, tried things I never expected to eat, and spent amounts on dinner that would make plenty of people question my judgment. Fair enough. Sometimes I question it myself. Are tasting menus worth it?…

What You’ll Find Here

This luxury travel blog is built around the experiences that make a trip worth remembering—not simply the places everyone is expected to visit.

You’ll find firsthand stories from Formula 1 weekends, destination restaurants, luxury hotels, cocktail bars, cultural landmarks, and unexpected places I discovered along the way. Some experiences required months of planning and reservations made far in advance. Others happened because I walked into the right place, met the right person, or followed a recommendation from someone who actually knew the city.

Both matter.

Travel Beyond the Obvious

I’m interested in what gives a destination its personality. That could be a tasting menu built around local ingredients, a bartender introducing me to a regional spirit, or a hotel that understands hospitality beyond an expensive room and an impressive lobby.

Formula 1 adds another layer to the journey. A Grand Prix may be the reason I book the flight, but the race is only part of the experience. The restaurants, neighborhoods, hotels, cocktail bars, and people surrounding the weekend are what turn it into a complete trip.

That is the kind of travel you’ll find here.

Firsthand Experiences and Honest Opinions

Everything begins with firsthand experience. I visit the restaurant, stay at the hotel, order the cocktail, attend the race, and explore the destination before writing about it.

I’m not interested in repeating press releases or creating another list of places someone else says you should visit. If something is exceptional, I’ll explain what made it worth the time and money. If it falls short, I’ll be honest about that too.

This luxury travel blog is not about pretending every expensive experience is extraordinary. It is about finding the ones that genuinely are—and helping you decide which reservations, hotels, races, and destinations deserve a place in your own journey.

Because luxury is not simply about spending more.

It is about experiencing something worth remembering.

What Luxury Actually Means to Me

Luxury travel is often reduced to expensive hotels, first-class cabins, and restaurants with long waiting lists. Those things can be part of it, but price alone has never made an experience memorable.

For me, luxury is access, intention, and attention to detail.

It is a hotel staff member who remembers a conversation from the previous evening. It is a chef translating the history of a region into a tasting menu. It is a bartender explaining why a local ingredient belongs in the glass. Sometimes it is simply having enough time to explore a neighborhood without rushing toward the next attraction.

The best luxury travel experiences create a connection to the destination. They reveal something I could not have discovered by reading a generic list or following the same itinerary as everyone else.

The Research Is Part of the Experience

I genuinely enjoy the planning. Before visiting a city, I dig into its restaurants, chefs, cocktail culture, hotels, museums, architecture, and neighborhoods. If the trip includes Formula 1 travel, I research what is happening beyond the circuit with the same intensity I bring to the race itself.

That research does not guarantee that every choice will be exceptional. It does, however, make it far more likely that I will find experiences with a real sense of place.

This is where culinary travel, cultural discovery, and thoughtful hospitality begin to overlap. A remarkable meal can explain a destination. A carefully chosen hotel can change how you experience a neighborhood. A conversation with someone who lives there can redirect an entire day.

Why I Share It

I created this luxury travel blog to document those discoveries honestly and give readers useful context—not simply another collection of attractive photographs.

My goal is to explain what made an experience distinctive, what it cost, who it might suit, and whether I would pay for it again. Consider these firsthand luxury travel reviews for people who appreciate exceptional experiences but still want to know whether the experience delivers.

Because “expensive” and “worth it” are not the same thing.
